1. Can you believe that God
is not a person, when Paul says that Jesus is "the image of the
invisible God"? -
2. Can you believe that MAN is part mortal and part immortal when the Scriptures so plainly teach that "God formed man of the dust of the ground," and that "the first man (Adam) is of the earth earthly"? - Gen 2:7; 1 Cor 15:47.
3. Can you believe that the breath of God breathed into man was a part of God's immortal nature, when the Bible says that man and beasts have "ONE BREATH?" - Eccles. 3:18; which would prove that beasts were immortal as well as man.
4. Can you believe that God made man's body, and put an immortal soul into it, when He says that "man became a living soul,” and Paul says that "the first man Adam was made a living soul"?- Gen. 2:7; I Cor 15:45.
5. Can you believe that man is immortal when the Bible tells you that man is mortal? - Job 4:17.
6. Can you believe that man has an immortal soul, or is now immortal, when the apostle teaches that we must seek for immortality by a patient continuance in well doing? - Romans 2:7. Why seek for it if we have it?
7. Can you believe that the heathen Socrates brought immortality to light, when God's Word shows it was brought to light by the gospel!- II Tim 1:10. The way it was brought to light was by Christ abolishing death upon his resurrection to immortality. - Rev 1:18.
8. Can you believe that man gets immortality at his birth into this world, when the Bible shows that it is not put on until the resurrection of the dead? - I Cor. 15:53-54.
9. Can you believe man to be immortal, when
the Word of God nowhere teaches such an idea, and when the word immortal
is used but once in the Scriptures, and then applied to God - i Tim. 1:17;and the word immortality but five times: once, that
God only hath it; once that we should seek for it, once, that it
is brought to light through the gospel: and twice, that it is put on at the resurrection
of the dead? - i Tim. 6:16;
10. Can you believe the soul will never die, when God says, "The soul that sinneth shall die"? - Ezekiel 18:4.
11. Can you believe the testimony of dying Christians in preference to all others? If so, do you believe Samson told the truth when he said "Let my SOUL DIE with the Philistines"? and Balaam, when he said, "LET MY SOUL DIE THE DEATH of the righteous'? - Judges16:30; Numbers 23:10 (see margin of these quotations, which is the correct rendering).
12. Can you believe that Job endorse the heathen dogma that the soul will never die, when he said, "My soul chooseth strangling and DEATH rather than my life"? - Job 7:15.
13. Can you believe that David embraced the doctrine that the soul would never die, and when he proclaims that "None can keep alive his own soul"? Again, "He (God) spared not his soul from death"- Psa 22:29; Psa 78:50.
14. Can you believe that when the breath or spirit goes forth from man at death, and when he returns to his earth, that his thoughts continue to live on, when the Bible says, "In that very day his THOUGHTS PERISH"? - Psa 146:4.
15. Can you believe the dead are praising God, when the Word of God so plainly says, that "the dead praise NOT THELORD, neither any that go down into silence" - Psa 115:17.
16. Can you believe that the dead know more than the living, when God declares, "The dead know not anything"? Ecclesiastes 9:5.
17. Can you believe that Sheol or Hades is a place of consciousness when the Scriptures say, "There is no WORK, nor DEVICE, nor KNOWLEDGE, nor WISDOM in the grave (Hebrew Sheol, Greek Hades) whither thou goest"? Ecclesiastes 9:10.
18. Can you believe that in death men remember God when David says, "In death there is no remembrance of thee"? - Psalm6:5.
19. Can you believe that David is now in heaven, when Peter says, "For David is not ascended into the heavens" (Acts 2:34), and that "he is both dead and buried"? - Verse 29.
20. Can you believe there is any necessity for a future judgement and a resurrection, if man receives his reward at death? Would it be consistent to judge him at death, then take him from heaven or hell in the day of judgement, judge him and put him right back again, making a double judgement?
21. Can you believe that man would live in a future state without a resurrection, when we are told by Paul that if the dead rise not, "then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ ARE PERISHED"?- I Cor. 15:32.
22. Can you believe that Paul expected to have a future life, or be with Christ without a resurrection, after having said, “What advantageth it me if the dead rise not, let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die"? - I Cor. 15:32.
23. Can you believe that at the resurrection men are called from heaven and hell to judgement, when Jesus says, "All that are IN THEGRAVES shall hear His voice, and shall come forth, THEY that have done good unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation"? - John 5:28.
24. Can you believe that eternal life was given us through our parents when the Scriptures say, "The gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ"? - Romans 6:23.
25. Can you believe that the wicked will live forever in hell, when God declares, "All the wicked will he DESTROY"? -Psa 145:20:, and "They shall be as though they had not been," and "shall not be," "perish," "be as nothing," "be burned up root and branch," "be consumed," "lose life," "be devoured," "burnt up with an unquenchable fire," etc., etc.? - Obad. 16; Psa 37:19-20; Isa.41:11- 12; Mal. 4:1,3; John 12:25; Psa 104:35; Psa 101:8; Ezek. 18:4-20;Rom. 6:23; Heb. 6:8; Gal. 6:7-8; Matt. 3:12.
26. Can you believe the everlasting punishment of which Christ speaks is everlasting misery, when Paul tells you it shall be "everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord"? - Matt.25:46; II Thess. 1:7-9.
27. Can you believe that the devil is immortal when the Scriptures teach that God "only hath immortality" (to give) - I Tim. 6:16;and that it is only obtainable "by a patient continuance in well doing"?- Romans 2:7.
28. Can you believe that God would impart his own perfect nature to such a monster as the devil is represented to be?
29. Can you believe that the devil is indestructible, when the Scriptures teach that Christ "through death destroyed him that hath the power of death, that is the devil"? - Hebrews 2:14.
30. Can you believe that God will preserve the devil and his works eternally, when the Scriptures teach that He will destroy the “last enemy"? - I Cor. 15:26.
31. Can you believe that it is an immortal devil that tempts men, when the Scriptures teach that "every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lusts and enticed"? - James 1:14.
32. Can you believe that there is any need for a devil worse than man himself?
33. Can you believe that Jesus believed Satan to be a superhuman, immortal, fireproof cloven-footed monster, when he said to Peter, "Get thee behind me satan" (Matt 16:23)? and of Judas, "One of you is a devil"? - John 6:70.
Finally, the phrases "immortal soul,"
"never-dying soul”, “immortal spirit," "deathless
spirit," "spirit land," "land of spirits,"etc., which
are so often heard from the clergy and read of in hymnbooks ARE NOT in the Word
of God; you can not find one of them in the Bible. Then why believe such
heathen dogmas, and reject the plain word of the living God?
